What have you been up to this summer?
Well...
WILLIAM is teaching Sunday school, preaching and leading the Kids4Truth children's program on Sunday evenings, and taking a summer reading coarse for Seminary credit.
He has made a great transition in his present job at Ricoh from being in the religious vertical (selling to non-profit organizations) to the health vertical. In June, he had a week of training, and will be going to Atlanta next week and the first week of August for continued training. We are excited about the possibilities, and are confident that no matter how many sales He makes, God will provide exactly what our family needs financially.
SHANDI (I) am staying at home. Most of my day consists of caring for Trevor. I am continuing to learn what it means to be a godly wife and mom, and enjoying it more than can be expressed. I am thankful that I don't have it all figured out, because I am forced to depend on God to become the godly wife and mother He wants me to be.
I am also spending much of my free time planning Seminary Wives activities for this coming school year, as I was voted to lead our monthly meetings and activities for the year. I am enjoying the preparation, and excited to implement the ideas the Lord has laid on my heart for the other Seminary Wives and myself.
TREVOR is 9 1/2 months now. He wieghed in at his 9 month well check in the 80th percentile at 22 lbs 10 oz. (13% drop from his 6 month check, but Dr. said this is good b/c he is mobile now, and it will drop like that.) His head and hieght were both still in the 90th percentile - 18" (head) and 30" (hieght).
He is eating a broad variety of grains, fruit and veggies. We are staying away from wheat and dairy except yogurt for a while longer, due to his eczema early on. He loves finger foods that are not slippery, but still likes to be fed with a spoon because he gets food FASTER. :)
He can say mama, dada, daddy, bear, dog, ball, bath and duck. He will try almost any word I ask. We are working on Eph 6:1 "...obey..." but he hasn't quite gotten it yet! :)
Trevor knows and attempts many signs, such as "all done," "more," "please," "bird," "milk," "dog" and "change." His attempts are sometimes hard to catch if you don't know what to look for, but I am enjoying the communication!
He is crawling and stands for a second with out holding on before falling, and cruises by holding onto the wall or chairs or anything. Yesterday he was holding onto my legs, poking his head through them while I was washing dishes. :)
TOGETHER -- We just celebrated our 3rd ANNIVERSARY! Praise the Lord for our marriage!
We've taken up a bit of Tennis, and have enjoyed playing a lot of volleyball at mom and dad Jelsma's house with siblings and friends. We've gone on some great dates and double dates with family and friends. Also, enjoyed some great Sunday School activities, going to Theatre in the Park and Friday Night Flicks in downtown KC (you bring lawn chairs and stake out a spot on the grass and watch a family movie on a big screen they blow up with air.)
We take family walks and just sit at home and play with Trevor or take him outside to discover the world on bird, tree or dog at a time. Trevor and Daddy get lots of quality time together in the evenings as well!
At the beginning of the summer, we got to take a trip to Houston to visit Will's family over mother's day. Will preached the morning service at his parents church and did a great job. We enjoy every opportunity to be with and have Trevor be with his grandma and grandpa Cover. And, of course they enjoyed him and showing him to all their friends at church etc. It was a great trip!
My brother Shane came and got to meet Trevor for the first time! That was so fun! Trevor loved his Uncle Shane a lot!
My sister Summer is engaged, and her fiance C.J. spent 16 days here in KC. We enjoyed spending time with them and doing a little bit of wedding planning with them. The wedding is set for next June 26th! Another Sister, Stacy, and Jason and Alyssa came to visit as well from Farmington, NM where Jason is the youth pastor. We enjoyed having the cousins Alyssa (21 mo) and Trevor (9mo) play together! We went to the zoo, and played in the pool at mom and dad's.
I am looking forward to spending a week in Farmington in August. I have not gotten to see where Stacy and Jason live, and am excited to see their ministry there and spend time with them.
William's Sister Angela will be visiting us in August as well! We are looking forward to it very much.
July is already halfway over, and we are narrowing our focus towards the coming school year, but still anticipating the rest of the summer days we have left...We thank the Lord for the blessings of this season in our lives!
